beware of minor Dawntrail spoilers!––––––––––––––––––––Rook's parents moved from Xak Tural to Tuliyollal shortly before he was born, wanting to raise him in the safer city environment. With them, they brought their animal companion, a large red wolf named Mirage. His father had joined up with the Landsguard, and his mother would take up hunting jobs in the areas outside Yok Tural.Rook naturally took an interest in his parents' fields of work – beasts specifically. They would end up training him in the ways of the Viper, and his mother would take him out on hunting trips once he was old enough to learn about the fauna of Tural. It wasn't the hunt he was specifically interested in, but the wildlife itself that intrigued him and urged him to study them.The young Shetona took a specific interest in the Tural Vidraal, like Mirage–the unique and stronger beasts that scoured the land. Once he was old enough to handle himself, his parents (albeit begrudgingly) allowed him to venture on his own for his studies, so long as he'd keep in touch to let them know he hadn't met his end. Rook made it a habit to return to the city often rather than just sending letters from his travels. And of course, he had Mirage for added protection.When the opportunity of exploring new lands arose, Rook decided to hop on the boat to Sharlayan, eager to learn of the outside world and its creatures. He'd taken up a temporary residence in Sharlayan, as he'd been accepted into the Academic Homestead Program to learn more of Eorzea's wildlife. It was here that he began to learn more of animal caretaking for the fauna that now called Labyrinthos home. He would stay here to study until news of Tuliyollal's Rite of Succession reached the city, which he eagerly returned to his hometown to witness with his parents.Unfortunately, Rook was soon displaced by the unexpected attack from Zoraal Ja's otherworldly forces, losing both of his parents by the time the army was pushed out. Unsure of where to settle now, he decided to take the boat back to Sharlayan to continue studying through the Academic Program at the Studium, and atleast have some housing with an old friend.When not busy with his studies, Rook has continued his habit of exploring and watching out for the wildlife–including tracking down poachers. He takes hunting jobs against the dangerous beasts, and continues following the stories of the Vidraal that have traveled over from his homeland.

Mirage

A Tural Vidraal who has been a loyal companion of Rook's family for generations after awakening to her powers.Other than her great age and size, she has been bestowed exceptional speed and stealth capabilities, which she uses to assist her partner in hunts and protection.Much like her name suggests, Mirage is able to leave after-images of herself to confuse enemies and prey before she moves in to strike.Although the beast is unable to speak, she has learned how to fully understand humans' speech and can intelligently respond in her own ways. She normally has quite a playful personality and even tries to get a rise out of Rook at times. Despite this, Mirage is also very caring and protective of him, acting very motherly at times around him since he's been orphaned.
